The fall is by far a busy time for me with the start of the school, and work really picking up. I try to prepare as much as I can during the summer for a fast-moving fall at work, but even though I have good intentions, I never get to plan as much as I’d like too. I’m in charge of planning our annual spring Gala which last year raised $280,000, had 320 guests, and around 100 auction items. Oh and I have to create the bidder book, work on the invitation, manage an intern, secure sponsorships, secure a 50 volunteers – oh and all while fulfilling the other duties of my job.
Yep. I’m just a wee bit stressed.
My daughter started 2nd grade this past Tuesday which was exciting, and nervewracking. She goes to a dual-language school and balances one week in Spanish and one week in English. Seeing that I don’t speak Spanish at home, she’s showing some hesitation when she is in Spanish – which as you can imagine makes me a bit overwhelmed. We sat down to do her homework last night and I kicked myself for not knowing basic Spanish words considering how many years I took it in high school! This is why I’m hoping and praying that my daughter will have an advantage with learning Spanish at such a young age – she’s been in this school since Junior Kindergarden.
Oh and to top it off I’m juggling working and being present at her cheerleading practice three days a week until 8pm. Her bedtime is at 8pm. You have nooo idea what type of monster I’m dealing with in the morning when she goes to bed late. It takes all my strength and patience to get us out the door on time.
So, yeah, I’ve got a couple of things going on.
I crave Fridays. I crave the looseness of weekends. I enjoy not having such a rigid schedule and being able to sleep in, see my friends, and most importantly spend some serious quality time with my daughter that isn’t rushed by bedtime or cheerleading practice.
I try as much as I can to walk to work when I get the opportunity, and that 30 minute walk helps to center me, and prepare me for a busy day fundraising and talking with board members. Once the end of the week comes I crave the same calmness that I get when I walk to work, and that’s how I celebrate the end of the week naturally. By taking in nature with my daughter. Luckily the weather warmed up this afternoon, so after we got home we headed back out and took a walk around the neighborhood. We took in the colors of Fall, the different homes, the families at the park. It’s wonderful how much you pay attention to your surroundings when you give yourself the chance to s-l-o-w down.
I celebrate the end of a long week by slowing down and taking in nature with a walk. How do you celebrate the end of a long week naturally? I encourage you to visit the Nature Blend’s Facebook page to share your own celebration, a celebration you see in nature or your own comparison of the two. Be sure to follow Nature Blend’s on Facebook, and see how other celebrates nature naturally. Fridays are a natural day of celebration after a long workweek to get out and celebrate. You can spend time relaxing by the pool, taking a stroll through the park or hang out with friends. Another way to celebrate is by having a naturally sweet Nature’s Blends.
