Thank You #SMlatinas Sponsors!

I’m still reliving my trip to NY where I attended BlogHer and got a chance to mingle with some wonderful Latinas. In my post last week I painted a colorful picture of the #SMlatinas event bringing together influential latina bloggers for a change to kick our heels off, drink some delicious Sangria, take some photos, and laugh!!

Another big piece of the event came at the hand of our wonderful sponsors! Migdalia, the founder of Stiletto Media really spoiled us at Pio Pio Restaurant! Our amazing sponsors made the night even more wonderful with goodie bags including COVERGIRL Outlast All-Day Lipcolor, one of a kind Avocados from Mexico earrings, and more!

From the HP Backdrop where we spent lots of time posing for pictures to the glitter tattoos it was a night to remember! I’m so bummed I wasn’t able to get my tattoo like many others did! We were thrilled to have Glitter Tattoo NY join us for the party providing sparkly tats for guests! I know tattoos can seem like a big commitment to a lot of people, and I admit before getting my two tattoos throughout the years I was nervous to get them, but now I’m slightly obsessed! I love the idea of Glitter Tattoo bringing glitter and glam for guests without the permanent commitment!! What’s better? Glitter Tattoo is a Mom owned business – represent!

I’ve gushed to the other ladies in attendance how much FUN I had at the party, that I am hoping we can plan a pre-holiday party. I’m thinking a latina ugly sweater party? Now that would be EPIC!!

Celebrating Latinas at the #SMlatinas event at Pio Pio!

Last week I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Blog Her conference in the heart of The Big Apple – more on that in another post. The highlight of my time in NYC wasn’t the conference surprisingly, but rather a party before the event, the Stiletto Media Kick Off Your Heels Event at Pio Pio Restaurant.

I’ve been part of the Stiletto Media (#SMlatinas) group for awhile now, and was so so excited to meet some of the ladies I communicate with regularly through social media in person!! The event was an opportunity for us to network, make new friends, and celebrate being latinalicious bloggers!

In addition to endless Sangria, delectable hors d’oeuvres, and glitter tattoos there was friendship. I met Migdalia the powerhouse of Stiletto and fellow single mom, Lourdes a friendly latina who made me get my first glass of Sangria, instantly clicked with Gloria another former teen mom, Sili my silly Sili with an electric smile, super friendly Maria who welcomed me in with a warm hug, Rachelwho was just too cool for school, beautiful Heiddi & super sweet Eileen!! Along with many more, we posed, we drank, we laughed, and most importantly we supported each other.

Listen, getting a group of opinionated ladies together doesn’t always end well. But in this instance, in this atmosphere, we were one big latina family. There was no pressure, no cattiness, there was acceptance. I’ve struggled for a long time figuring out where I fit in, there was no doubt I was supposed to attend this #SMlatinas party and meet the wonderful ladies that I did.

In my busy day to day life I don’t give myself the opportunity to kick back and enjoy with friends, and I’m so glad I did. I brought out the hot pink dress (representing Stiletto!) and the heels for this event! The pictures just begin to tell a story of the fun we had, it was truly a night to remember.

Neutrogena Choose Skin Health Campaign #ChooseSkinHealth that you? Yes, summer is FINALLY here, cue the music!!!

I am so ready to enjoy the warm weather and blue skies! My daughter and I spend every moment we can outdoors during the summer, but we do take precautions to protect our skin before heading into the sun. For a long time I thought that my caramel skin was protected from the sun’s rays because of my darker skin tone. Wrong! My skin has never burned so I assumed that meant my skin was creating some kind of barrier to protect itself. Wrong! Many people are ignoring the serious repercussions of exposing their skin to UVA and UVB radiation by sun bathing and not using sunscreen when out for long periods of time.

I have happily joined Neutrogena’s Choose Health Skin Campaign, which means I am helping fight the skin cancer epidemic, and am education and empowering the public to follow healthy sun-safe behaviors and take proper precautions against sun damage, such as signing up for a free skin cancer screening. Neutrogena’s Brand Ambassador, Mexican actress and singer Sandra Echeverría, is also supporting the Choose Skin Health™ campaign, encouraging the Hispanic community to protect their skin and wear sunscreen every day. A couple of easy tips to protect yourself:

1. Wear Sunscreen – at least SPF 15! Seems like a no brainer, but you’d be surprised at how many people forget to apply before and during sun exposure. They make great products so you are not stuck with the thick heavy cream. I love the sprays and sunblock sticks for the face. Speaking of your face…

2. Cover Up! Protective clothing goes a long way! This could include sunglasses, hats, long sleeves, and/or pants.

See…easy! Skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers and, with early detection, most of them are curable. The Choose Skin Health™ campaign is providing the public with the opportunity to get a free skin cancer screening with a dermatologist in their town. The initiative was made possible through a partnership between Neutrogena® and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), in their commitment with educating the community on sun-related issues.

Enjoy the summer and protect yourself!
