Thank You President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama

On November 4, 2008 I wept in my bed while my three year old daughter slept beside me. You were elected the 44th president of the United States. Despite constant scrutiny and criticism you ran your campaign on hope and change and spoke to me in a way no other presidential candidate ever had. I looked at you and saw me. Not just in color. But in values of family, progress and community. I voted for your family, for what you stood for: progress not perfection. Change we can believe in.

Today, I celebrate you. Your legacy. Your passion. Your integrity.

I’ve watched your family blossom. I’ve watched your calm and resilience in the face of devastation. Your humor and resolve. You both continually inspire me to strive for more. In myself and in my community. Through your compassion and authenticity you have opened your arms and hearts to the world allowing me to feel part of your journey – our journey. Through the good, the bad and the nasty. I applaud you for choosing to rise above on so many occassons. Going high I’m sure wasn’t easy, but showed your character time and time again.

For many of her younger years my now 11 year old daughter would refer to you as “Uncle Obama” and while I giggled every time she said it, it was a clear reminder of your reach. You have been a President for the people. For all people. Without using arrogance or being nasty and disrespectful, you’ve been absolute class acts and I am proud that my daughter and my future child, have you two as role models regardless of your no longer living in The White House.

My heart is full of gratitude, love and hope.

Thank You.

With Admiration and Deep Respect,

Alexandra

Big News: Xfinity and Netflix Integration!

This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Comcast New England. I received an Amazon gift card. All opinions, as always, are my own.

comcast, netflix, xfinity

I have a confession. I am dramatic-movie-obsessed, especially now that I’m pregnant. I just watched Into The Woods and Selma – amazing! I spent a considerable amount of time switching between my Comcast Xfinity and Netflix apps trying to find the right movie or show to engage me for a couple of hours. I have another confession. Switching between apps is exhausting. With baby #2 making his/her arrival in just a few months I’m on a journey to live a more minimalist life. This will hopefully mean a more zen home with less stuff and that goes for technology as well. Less is more as far as I’m concerned!

Earlier this fall I wrote a post about how Comcast, the nation’s largest video, high-speed and Internet and phone provider, is working tirelessly to make their customers experiences user friendly, convenient and seamless. And their newest announcement is a great addition to their goal. Want a more seamless viewing experience? Tired of switching between remotes (when you can find them)? Get excited because Comcast Xfinity and Netflix are now BFFs!

Comcast Xfinity and Netflix sitting in a tree…..why is this collaboration so amazing? “We are excited to add Netflix to X1 and give our customers access to all the content they love in a way that has never been done before” said Neil Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Comcast Cable. This news is incredibly exciting for me, a loyal Comcast Xfinity and Netflix customer because it means I have even more options in one place than ever, which makes me very happy.

Available on Xfinity On Demand, X1 Voice Remote or Netflix app customers can seamlessly browse an extensive catalog of shows and movies alongside live and on demand programming. During the week leading up to Halloween I indulged in the Halloween series on Xfinity live and it was awesome! I always seem to move towards On Demand and the live option offers another layer of options sure to fulfill whatever content you’re looking for.

If you are an existing Netflix customer it’s super easy to integrate the two apps. Simply sign-in Netflix service on X1 for the first time. Don’t have Netflix yet? I have three amazing reasons to join:

My favorite shows EVAH!

So to recap – this integration is AMAZING! Why?

  1. If you have a X1 voice remote simply say (or sing) “Netflix” in your remote to launch the Netflix app
  2. Search for your favorite shows, actors or movies across both Xfinity and Netflix (I’ve been on a Rachel Weisz kick and recently found this feature super amazing)
  3. Don’t get left out while your friends watch current shows. Easily watch the new shows from the first season all in one place
  4. Browse without switching apps

Signing up for Netflix is super easy and additionally Netflix customers can choose to add their Netflix service added to their existing Comcast bill. E-A-S-Y.

In the words of my soul sister Gwen Stefani…..

Throwback Thursday: Nintendo Gets a Makeover

This is a sponsored post. All opinions, as always are my own.

SI_GenericNintendo

As a child of the 80s, Nintendo was an activity that my siblings and I enjoyed throughout our childhood. The gameboy is near and dear to my heart as well as the original console – man who remembers all of the tips and tricks you’d use to get your games playing? One of my favorites to keep a game down in the console was to (1) blow on the game (2) insert game in console (3) with ninja like speed nudge another game on top of it. Genius!

As I’ve grown up video games have become less and less apart of my life and my daughter hasn’t grown an unhealthy obsession with games, but I’m pretty sure all that will change. Why? Because, Nintendo got a makeover and has amazing new products and games for the young and old in your family. For my fellow Nintendo console lovers, get excited because Nintendo is releasing a retro blast from the past with the Classic Edition!! If you can believe it, the classic was first released in (my birth year) 1985 and the new classic will be out November 11, 2017 (!!!) – would be a great holiday gift for a gamer in your life!

Additionally, Nintendo has released handheld devices in 2D & 3D versions and playing games is just the beginning. With the Nintendo 2DS &  3DS XL users can:

  •         Play any Nintendo 3DS game
  •         Download games & apps
  •         Use built-in software
  •         Play multiplayer games with friends & family
  •         Enable parental controls to manage content

The Nintendo 3DS XL foldable system ($199) has some awesome additions that include browsing the web, streaming Netflix or HuluPlus, access to Youtube and the ability to create you own Mii™ characters.

Nintento 2DS

While the Nintendo 2DS ($79.99) (that we won at a Nintendo 3DS XL event!!) is another great affordable option with most capabilities of the 2DS except it doesn’t fold and users can’t stream websites.

I saw a classic console edition a few weeks ago at a store and really wanted to buy it – it’s basically a legend – but something told me not to. And clearly it’s because little did I know, the new classic will be delivered this fall!! But the real question that is burning in my mind, for all true Nintendo fans is:

Who is your favorite Super Mario Brothers character? Mario -or- Luigi?
